Barry Haseltine MBE Consulting Engineer

Barry Haseltine has been a full-time consulting engineer for around 50 years, working on schools, apartment blocks and offices as well as numerous committees. Barry retired from Jenkins and Potter in 1994 but continued to act as a consultant to the practice. He has for many years conducted a great deal of expert witness work for the Courts.

Investigation of problems in building construction

Barry investigates problems with brickwork, concrete blockwork, mortar, rendering and sometimes combination problems involving other materials. He will go to site, take samples if needed, have them analysed and then report on the reasons for the problems and the need for remedial work, if any is required.

Central to Barry's work has been research and codification of masonry problems, being since 1978, the Chairman of the BSI committee for masonry, BS525-6 (or its predecessors). Barry was chairman of the European Code Committee for masonry until 1999, after which he continued as the chairman of the panel dealing with structural masonry. Barry is still involved with the standards committees in the UK and in Europe attending plenary meetings and coordination group meetings of the Structural Eurocodes CEN committee, and also attending the Commission Eurocodes Meetings.
